The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach. We promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation. The Goethe-Institut Los Angeles operates on a partnership basis. For individual projects, as for longer-term joint ventures, we connect with stakeholders in the cultural scene – institutions, organizations, companies, people in and from Southern California and Arizona, Germany, and other countries (in particular our European neighbors).

Created in 2009 as a space to produce and curate queer performance art nights at various contended sites throughout LA, Tranza showcases various artists, performances, and disruptions/reclamations of historically and traditionally queer/immigrant/trans spaces struggling to survive gentrification, displacement, and rampant violence. Creator and producer Byron collaborates and engages in discourse with LA-based artists whose work centers, raises consciousness, and stems from the artistry and work of various comunidades en lucha, through a multi-issue lens.Tranza has been installed at venues including Redz/Chuparosa, Little Joy, Human Resources, The Jalisco Inn #2, The TransLatin@ Coalition’s Center for Violence Prevention and Transgender Wellness, Silver Lake Lounge, and various traditional queer sites and spaces within the neighborhoods of Boyle Heights, MacArthur Park, Echo Park, Silver Lake, West Adams, Koreatown, Skid Row, East Hollywood, Chinatown, and Greater Los Angeles.Tranza’s 13th-anniversary installation will be presented as part of the Festival de Barriletes exhibit at Goethe-Institut in MacArthur Park. Admission is open to the public.
