An exhibition by scientist and artist  Ana Tsifouti. Her existential experiences are entered into algorithms to produce unfamiliar forms.

<p>FB event for updates: https://fb.me/e/4RtTtBqE3</p><p>Instagram: @anatsifouti.art</p><h1>21 - 23 September </h1><h2>The Artwork in the Exhibition </h2><p>Experimenting with past memories, feelings, perspectives and present desires, she is expressing her transmutation process through art.  </p><p>The artwork in the exhibition is made from a dataset of digitised analogue photographs (about 700), taken over 15 years ago, representing past experiences of UK and Greek life. Different sets of photographs are selected from this old memories to enter into algorithms to create the artwork. The pieces are overlayed, entail variations of tonal/colour intensities, creating abstract textures, forms and interesting compositions. The film graininess enhances the textures. It is the unexpected that the algorithms produce, similar to a darkroom experience, when making prints from negatives.    </p><h2>Photobooth</h2><p>A photography area would be organised for people to have their photo(s) taken to enter into the algorithms. This will result in a unique art piece, provided free of charge in the form of a digital image. </p>

<h2>We are the storytellers </h2><p>Working from the feelings initiated by each piece, three observers have constructed stories. This is to demonstrate the differences between human perception and experiences of feelings, and to encourage the viewer to stop, think and emotionally experience the artwork. </p><p>"Storyteller Stav:</p><p>You don’t remember, do you? That we didn’t go home, then. We moved on, to another place.  More people, they took photos, we took, too.</p><p>They wanted you and I was dancing. But you don’t remember, do you? When you made fun of my accent, when you made fun of my fall, when, again, I stood up and left.</p><p>You don’t remember, do you? As I don’t, either, why I am, still, here."</p><p>"Storyteller Polly:</p><p>Coral, clipping choral.</p><p>Gift of beef wrapped neatly in paper, a war birthday. A little bloody but still clean, carried and spoken clearly. “Of course, lass!”. I’m touched neatly and tidily, simple easy humanity. But hormones still permeate and supersede even this comfortable, orderly, nice world, pulling us forward beyond ourselves. “God only knows, I’m sure” – oh, but I know, always here, in your blood. Here with drives and with watching eyes.</p><p>Holy imago, bless all our efforts. Speak to us through the rubble we create. Our receptor cells are excited for your touch, our bodies are your tools, your toys and your weapons. Create us, and throw away our intentions.</p><p>AMEN!"</p>

<h2>Bio</h2><p>Ana Tsifouti (Kavala, Greece) is a scientist and artist in the area of Imaging Science and Image Quality. She resides in London, UK.  Ana holds a Bachelors’ degree in Imaging Science and a PhD in Image Quality, assessing security imaging systems for human consumption and optimising of automated algorithms, both from the University of Westminster in London. She has worked as a UK civil servant scientist, defining image quality and establishing testing methodologies for algorithms and human investigations (psychophysics) for police tasks. Ana has experience with two large technology companies, mainly working on Image Signal Processing Pipeline algorithms, and in a Startup as one of the main technical leads. </p><p>This is Ana's art exhibition entitled ‘Transmutation to Abstraction’ (Instagram: @anatsifouti.art). She utilises photographs and machine learning algorithms to produce abstract content. The way she selects the images to enter into the algorithms relate to over fifteen years experience in the area of imaging. She is experimenting with image quality attributes, content and psychological processes. </p><p> She is using herself as a perceptual-emotional-system to produce art in relation to existential experiences throughout her life (captured with images), personalised preference/style, and the state of developmental progress of brain process awareness and emotional needs.</p>

<h2>Transmutation to abstraction (Poem) by Ana </h2><p>Years of information is gathered in my body</p><p>Innate sensations, elementary sense impressions</p><p>Formation, deformation, projective transformations, co-existing impressions</p><p>360 degrees of visual information </p><p>The world appears illusionary </p><p>Experiences are not replicas but correlations to reality </p><p>In this structured society we are given alternatives to reality, substitutes </p><p>Dichotomy of situations, lived experiences are cultural experiences all situational experiences </p><p>I need random, foreign thoughts, senseless forms, new associations</p><p>Transmutation transmutation, combine, compute, comprehend the information</p><p>Transmutation transmutation, I had enough I need new form </p><p>Perceptions are the fingerprints of our unique individuality </p><p>Variations in stimuli, cause variations in perception, interpretation </p><p>Individuality constancy through experiences doesn’t exist </p><p>Transmutation transmutation shift my perception to a different form </p><p>Transmutation transmutation i don't want to rely on my old thoughts </p>
