Celebrating the release of the second edition of Facilitating Conversations on Race: Strategies for Leading Group Discourse, Cultures Connecting invites you to join us for this interactive online Train the Trainer Series.

Facilitating conversations about race requires the ability to build trust, navigate discomfort, respond to resistance, and remain grounded when emotions run high. Through interactive engagement, participants will strengthen their capacity to facilitate meaningful conversations about race, power, privilege, and belonging.

Drawing from more than two decades of facilitation experience and the practical strategies outlined in the book, participants will learn approaches for creating learning environments where people can engage across differences, wrestle with challenging ideas, deepen their understanding, and build stronger connections with one another. Whether you are new to facilitation or looking to strengthen existing skills, this training provides practical tools for leading conversations with greater confidence, authenticity, and effectiveness.

The skills developed in this three-day intensive are valuable for facilitators, educators, consultants, people leaders, and others responsible for guiding dialogue within organizations and communities. Organizations seeking to build internal capacity will benefit from sending multiple employees who can support ongoing courageous conversations throughout the workplace.

Participants will…

1. Gain strategies for creating a welcoming and engaging learning environment.
2. Learn approaches for establishing credibility and building trust with participants.
3. Identify sources of emotional activation and develop skills for responding effectively when participants become activated.
4. Strengthen their ability to recognize and respond to nonverbal communication.
5. Develop skills for facilitating common challenges and pitfalls.
6. Improve their ability to engage disagreement, tension, and conflict while fostering accountability and belonging.
7. Learn how power, privilege, and identity can influence group dynamics and participant engagement.

Required Text: Attendees must purchase a copy of Facilitating Conversations on Race: Strategies for Leading Group Discourse and have the book available during the training (available on Bookshop, Bloomsbury, or Amazon). The book serves as the primary workshop resource and is used in place of handouts. Pre-ordering now helps boost our visibility! You’ll receive your copy after the July 23rd release date.

Location: Virtual. The Zoom link and workshop information will be available on the online event page, as well as emailed to registered participants prior to the training.

Schedule: 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. PST each day

Clock Hours: 9.5 Clock Hours available for Washington State Certificated Teachers.

• Large For-Profit Companies: $800
• Large Nonprofit, Public Sector, and Medium For-Profit Companies: $700
• Medium Nonprofit, Public Sector, and Small For-Profit Companies: $600
• Small Nonprofit and Public Sector: $500
• Personal/Non-Organization (these tickets are for individuals paying out of pocket for their own attendance): $400
• Low Income or Student (a limited number of tickets are reserved for cash-poor, working-class and student participants): $75

*No refunds for any reason 7 days prior to the workshop, although you are welcome to gift your seat to a colleague.*

​Other Important Information:

• The purchase of your ticket covers your attendance to all three days of the workshop. Each workshop day will be from 9:00am-12:30pm PT and attendees must be present for all three days.
• If more than one person from your organization attends, please be sure each person has their own computer. Each person from your organization is required to buy a ticket.
• We will send an email up to a week before the workshop with information and suggested reading. You can also check the online event page for details. If you do not receive an email, please reach out to Judy at judy.lee@culturesconnecting.com.
• Given the challenges of talking about racism, everyone is required to have their video camera turned on during the workshop. If for some reason you are unable to do so, please contact us in advance.

Cultures Connecting is committed to making our workshops accessible to everyone and have designed our workshops with this in mind.

Our virtual workshops are on Zoom which provides live captioning in 46 languages. Powerpoints are accessible and can be requested ahead of time. Most of our handouts are in PDF format so MS Word versions are available upon request. Please indicate this and any other accessibility needs during registration.
