About this event

  • 4 hours

Difficulty: Moderate/Difficult

Appropriate for: Hikers comfortable with steep trails and some rock scrambling

Leader: Hobbit (Al Walker)

About Hobbit: Hobbit is a tech geek and enthusiastic explorer of Boston-area parks, primarily North Shore but with occasional jaunts farther afield including the Whites. He is a member of Trustees, Mass Audubon, and several local Friends groups. His "home group" is the Friends of Harold Parker, and he can often be found leading their weekly Wednesday morning outings (plug!). His greatest enjoyment comes from the ever-changing "symphony of textures" underfoot across the four seasons, as well as contributing data to Open Streetmap and generally helping endorse and care for our precious outdoor resources.

About the hike: Since very few people attended the last try at this, I'm going to host it again! This is a fairly vigorous trip of almost 7 miles, from the Bear Hill parking lot (which appears to be open again!) down to Wright Tower and back, on an assortment of trail types. Here's the route map from last time.

Terrain varies widely, from the rocks and roots of Skyline to sections of asphalt road and old railbeds, with 900 - 1000 feet of elevation change. Bear Hill tower is still closed off but Wright should be open to walk up ... but it's more about the journey, not the destination. And now the woods are much greener than back in March. And likely buggier, so bring your repellent along with the usual water and snacks!

We'll be out for 3 - 4 hours depending on group pace.

Park in the Bear hill parking lot on Fallon Road, and if that's full or blocked off again, the dirt/gravel area next to it closer to Marjam is available too.
