ILR Women's Caucus and ILR Alumni Affairs & Development

The ILR Women’s Caucus is an undergraduate organization within the ILR School, and the purpose of our organization is to work towards gender equality. Our membership convenes to expand the conversation about gender issues with a focus on—but not limited to—how they relate to the workplace.
This year’s Summit will be held from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 6th, 2017 in Ives Hall on the Ithaca campus. As a part of advancing our mission, the ILR Women’s Caucus hosts an annual Toward a More Equal Workplace Summit. The Summit brings students and professionals from varying industries together to discuss the challenges that women face in the workplace and best practices that create for all-inclusive workplaces. With topic-specific breakout sessions led by alumni guest speakers, a networking lunch, and a career advice panel, the goal of the event is to provide students the opportunity to learn and draw inspiration from the invaluable insights of female professionals.

Women as Leaders:
Candice Osunsade ’87, SVP/Chief Administrative Officer, National Aquarium

Millennials now make up the largest portion of the US workforce; with that, they are also taking on more roles as managers and leaders. However, here are distinct differences between generations; from Baby Boomers to Millennials, each generation has preferences on how they like to be supervised - as well as how they like to supervise! This session will take a look at what it means as well as how to be a strong manager and leader of work teams made up of people from multiple different generations. 
 
Negotiation in the Workplace

Why do women negotiate less than men? How do stereotypes and unconscious bias conspire to make negotiation a dangerous proposition for women? And more importantly, how can these be overcome – by individual women and their male and female managers? What are some of the basics of good negotiation? Are there any special tips to help make women more effective negotiators? During the session, these questions (and more) will be explored and addressed.

Personal finance can be confusing and wage negotiation is no simple task.  In this panel, you will learn about different financial concepts and terminology, and how having a handle on your personal finances can also help you negotiate and plan for your financial independence. Learn how to determine your worth and plan for your financial future.
 
Socially Responsibility Careers

Katie Quilici MILR '16, Accountability Associate, Fair Labor Association
A panel discussion centered on careers that advocate for fair practices and policies that are inclusive to the needs, and observant of the rights of women, both within their own careers and in the public/political arena. Guest will discuss their careers, current trends and challenges share advice on how to advocate for oneself and others.Now more than ever, one can do work that is both personally important as well as a business imperative. This session will discuss the importance of sustainability, equal rights and social responsibility and how it is affecting the current job market and the modern business landscape.
