About this event

This tour will take about 1 hour and highlight the completion of improvements by Alameda County Water District (ACWD) and project partners over 20 years to restore fish passage to Lower Alameda Creek in Fremont for safe migration of federally listed Central Coast Steelhead and other species for the first time in more than 50 years. In 2022, ACWD completed construction of the last of the many projects in the program, including a large fish ladder complex constructed in partnership with Alameda County Flood Control District, to allow fish to ascend obstructions in the flood control channel and freely migrate to and from San Francisco Bay.

The tour will explain how the fish ladders and fish screens work together with several projects along Alameda Creek to protect the environment and ensure water supply reliability for the communities of Fremont, Newark, and Union City.

Part of the tour is along the Alameda Creek Trail. Some walkways are unpaved and may be uneven. Walking .3 miles from parking area is required in closed-toe shoes without a heel.
