Followed by reception at Natasha Elliott, landscape designer's house one block away!

Join Dylan Johnson, AIA architect for a tour of a simple suburban home, built with straw bale post-and-beam infill walls. The project was built as a case study in low carbon - and specifically low embodied carbon-housing, using straw from the Sacramento Valley. The client, Yvon Chouinard (founder of Patagonia) envisioned the house to look "as normal as possible - to blend in with the neighborhood" hence the understated design and simple, familiar forms. During the process we worked with Patagonia to make a short film explaining the benefits of straw bale. Those attending the tour are encouraged to watch the film beforehand.

Also, more information here.

After the tour of the Straw Bale house, attendees are invited to a reception one block away, at the private residence of Natasha Elliott, LEED of Sweet Smiling Landscapes. Natasha is Chair of AIASB COTE committee, as well as being an AIASB Board Member and Landscape Designer. Natasha will highlight some of the sustainable features of her home including her garden that incorporates fire wise landscaping, water harvesting, and integrated pest management.
