We will gather at 9:30am in the parking lot at the Leopold Center, E13701 Levee Rd, to meet a docent for information about the Shack and Farm. The tour that will take 2 1/2 hours. After the orientation, we will drive/walk down Levee Road to the Shack, about 1 mile from the Center to the parking lot for the Shack,The Aldo Leopold Foundation was founded in 1982 with a mission to foster the land ethic through the legacy of Aldo Leopold, and to awaken a ecological conscience in people throughout the world. The Foundation manages the Leopold Shack & Farm and the Leopold Center.Aldo Leopold purchased the property along the Wisconsin River in 1935 and rebuilt the chicken coop, the only building on the property into a ‘Shack’ as a summer retreat for his family. The land inspired his call for a land ethic, a relationship between people, plants and animals that he detailed in his conservation classic, “A Sand County Almanac”. You will walk through the property and the shack with the docent.At the end of the tour, lunch is on on your own.
You may want to visit the Leopold Center where the tour started. It is a net zero energy building, meeting all of it’s energy needs on site, The Center contains a museum and many trails in the woods behind the Center.

Lunch is not provided - a hand out listing 3 local restaurants will be provided to registrants.
