Library staff discovered a great way to explore the facilities, ongoing transformations, and expansive resources at DC Public Libraries - by bike! The Tour de DCPL was born in 2010, a free, community bike ride that visits several of our 26 DC Public Library locations. Every year, to celebrate National Bike Month, a group of library staff, advocates, and community members strap on their bike helmets to help the DC Public Library promote environmentally friendly transportation and explore how our libraries connect with the communities they serve. 
The <A HREF="http://dclibrary.org/tourdedcpl" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">10th Annual Tour de DCPL </A>will take place on Sunday, May 19th and visit Tenley-Friendship, Washingtoniana, Cleveland Park, Mount Pleasant, Petworth, the Fab Test Lab & Passport Acceptance Office, Shaw, and Northwest One Neighborhood Libraries. Tour de DCPL is a NO DROP RIDE and designated bike marshals will ensure the group sticks together. Please arrive at the Tenley-Friendship Neighborhood Library by 12:30 pm to check-in and sign a waiver. Participants under 18 years old will need a parent/guardian signature at the time of check-in. The ride will depart at 1:00 pm. Snacks and water will be provided along the route. All riders must provide their own helmet.

Along this ride, we will visit a few of DC Public Library’s unique locations including Special Collections’ space near the Van Ness Metro, an interim location during the MLK Jr. Memorial Library’s modernization, the Fab Test Lab & Passport Acceptance Center located at the Reeves Center, and Penn Center, DC Public Library’s non-public operations center, located by the Metropolitan Branch Trail

The ride will explore the <A HREF="https://www.dclibrary.org/righttothecity" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum’s exhibit “A Right to the City”</A>, which has satellite installations at five DC Public Libraries throughout 2019.

Because it is the 10th anniversary of this library bikeride, we would like to celebrate! We invite all participants to join us at a fun after party location near our ending point, details TBA.
