Total Solar Eclipse Scarf

The Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati, Inc. was created in 1948 as a non-profit educational organization to promote interest in handweaving. Today, the Guild offers education in a wide range of fiber processes and techniques, including weaving, felting, spinning, basketry, knitting, and dyeing. Guild members are from the Cincinnati metropolitan area and surrounding communities, as well as from Kentucky and Indiana.Members range in experience from beginners to professionals. All benefit from the Guild's priorities: education through classes, workshops, programs, study groups; sharing information and fiber techniques with other members and community groups; and promoting and supporting local fiber producers and businesses.After 50 years of meeting in various churches throughout Greater Cincinnati, the Guild has its own home at 4870 Gray Road in Spring Grove Village.

Dyeing Classes

Learn a wide variety of dye techniques using natural and commercial dyes all taught in our brand new dye studio.

Class Limit: 6The only total solar eclipse in the 21st century visible in the United States and it’s in our area on April 8th. Celebrate by dyeing a souvenir eclipse scarf with natural plant dyes. Learn about dye plants you can grow in your garden and make into dye. Instructor will supply materials and a Habotai 8mm Scarf - 14" x 72" to dye. I am greatly influenced by the many environments I have lived, by the Ocean, in the redwoods, desert, mountains, "on the road", and here in Ohio. At seven, I learned to sew from my grandmother, at 18 Studied Fashion Design in L.A., designed costumes for cabaret performers, garments for boutiques. I enjoy experimenting and have studied glass blowing, blacksmithing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, animation, painting, ceramics, carpentry, jewelry, textiles … I have brought all of this into my textile experience and am now learning to weave and growing a dye garden. Since 2016, I have been sharing the joy of dying with natural plants through teaching workshops at The Conservatory (Miami Hamilton), the Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati, and at Dawni Designs Studio.If you are not feeling well, please contact the instructor instead of coming to the class. On a case-by-case basis, we may be able to reschedule you into a future class or provide a make-up lesson. Ticket fees are not normally refunded.Depending on the <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/covid-by-county.html" title="https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/covid-by-county.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">CDC guidelines</a> for Hamilton County at the time the class is held, a mask may be required. If so, you will be notified before the first class.Unless specifically stated, Weavers Guild classes are designed for ages 18 and above. On a case-by-case basis, a minor may be permitted to register for a class but must be accompanied by a registered adult who agrees to assist the minor during the class. Contact the Education Committee Chair at classes@weaversguildcincinnati.org for permission before registering any minor in a class.Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason.
