Join us for the Tool Foundry Showcase to meet the people inventing the future of scientific discovery.

The Tool Foundry accelerator cohort will discuss their tools’ potential for scientific impact, share their future goals, and give attendees a chance to demo their latest tool prototypes. Get to know inventors changing the landscape of scientific research tools, and connect with entrepreneurs, funders, and other experts in this inspiring community.

Tool Foundry is a Luminary Labs initiative funded by grants from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and Schmidt Futures to expand access to science. The accelerator is a four-month program emphasizing education and collaboration to help inventor teams strengthen their tools and build a foundation for sustainable growth. Learn more about the cohort:

• Feles: Bringing DNA sequencing to the classroom — and the kitchen table.

• MakeItSo: Helping scientists automate experiments, leading to new breakthroughs.

• Octopi: Automating disease detection to save lives.

• On-Target Cards: Helping citizen scientists test contaminants in water supplies.

• Spectra: Making medical imaging safer than an X-ray and cheaper than a trip to the radiologist.

ABOUT TOOL FOUNDRY

Scientific discovery tools — from telescopes to magnetometers — help us answer questions and generate knowledge. But many powerful tools are too expensive or too difficult for non-experts to use. Tool Foundry addresses this problem by advancing scientific discovery tools that anyone can use. We help tool makers build a foundation for sustainable growth and advocate for the science-curious.

The Tool Foundry accelerator experience includes customized support and curated resources to help teams rapidly address barriers, fill gaps, and develop sustainable business models. Each team is developing a prototype that provides a significant decrease in cost or increase in performance compared with existing tools.
