TONK
The JXN FILM FESTIVAL™ hosts the world premiere of TONK, a Maximus Wright film, a 7th Degree Agency Production & LaTonya Hailes-Pettus, EVP
Tonk, a guarded young woman shaped by addiction, poverty, and street life, is determined to build a legitimate future on her own terms. Abandoned by her drug-addicted mother and informally raised by her uncles, Tonk learned early that money meant security and that survival required discipline. Now living with her grandparents and working a low-wage job, she quietly lays the groundwork for a business of her own, focused on independence and control.
When Tonk’s estranged mother resurfaces, long-hidden truths about her childhood come to light, forcing Tonk to reassess the story she’s been told about her past. As she reconnects with her uncles, men who still move through a dangerous world, Tonk confronts the reality that her upbringing gave her both scars and strength. The episode ends with devastating news that tests Tonk’s sense of stability, leaving her at a crossroads where she must decide how to move forward without surrendering the future she’s building.
