About this event

This group realizes quitting smoking is difficult and can bring a flood of negative emotions, like fear, anxiety, guilt, shame, uncertainty and doubt. Tobacco Cessation Support Group meets monthly in a safe space to share and process these emotions while adding accountability and community to help throughout your tobacco cessation journey.

Support Group Norms:

Confidentiality – we will respect one another’s privacy by not discussing what is talked about in the group outside of the group.

Sensitivity – we will not monopolize the group’s time, aware that each participant should have the same opportunity to speak and be heard as we do.

Present – we will carefully listen to others without interruption. Audio will be muted when we are not speaking so as not to interrupt the participant that is talking.

Respect – we will not offer opinions/advice about what others should do or criticize their choices. By doing so, we respect each other’s need for choice and control.

Responsibility – we are responsible for our own experience and take ownership in that by speaking when we need to speak (using “I” statements to describe our own experience) and being quiet when we need to be quiet.

This support group is offered monthly as part of Baptist Cancer Center's THRIVE Survivorship Program. This program is open to anyone impacted by cancer. Virtual sessions are held via Microsoft Teams. Please check out all of our classes on our website: www.baptistcancercenter.com/thrive.
