DMITRI JAJICHDmitri is a Director of structural Engineering for the SOM Europe practice. He has worked on projects ranging in scale from the World’s Tallest Building, <a href="https://www.som.com/projects/burj_khalifa" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Burj Khalifa</a>, to a single-storey residence. Jajich’s work is characterized by elegantly integrated design, with an emphasis on clear structural expression and carefully crafted details. Since joining SOM in 2000, Jajich has developed engineering expertise in a range of materials including steel, concrete, timber, and glass. Recent projects include <a href="https://www.som.com/projects/karlatornet" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Karlatornet tower in Gothenburg</a>, Sweden, which will be the tallest building in Scandinavia, and <a href="https://www.som.com/projects/the_stratford" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Stratford </a>in London, which features an ambitious notched, double-cantilevered construction; Nine Elms Square; United Nations of Geneva (UNOG) Geneva, Switzerland.

CHRISTIANE LELLIGA specialist in behaviour change and sustainability communications, Christiane has led national research programmes and campaigns in various fields, ranging from environmental concerns to labour and social justice issues since 1999. She has worked for government agencies, local authorities, trade organisations, NGOs and businesses in Germany, France, Switzerland and the UK, most recently focusing on timber and the built environment.

SIMON SMITHSimon is a Director at Smith and Wallwork, with over a decade of experience in timber engineering. He was one of the first engineers to work on cross laminated timber structures in the UK. As well as timber, Simon is interested in the environmental impact of his designs having been involved in research in the embodied carbon in buildings.

MARION BAELIMarion is a Partner at PDP London. Her passion for sustainability and low energy design led Marion to take part and win a contract as part of a government competition, Retrofit for the Future, which in turn led to the delivery of the award winning 100 Princedale Road project, the first certified Passivhaus retrofit in the UK. Her work on Princedale Road contributed to the practice winning several awards including: ‘Best Sustainable Practice of the Year’ from AJ100; ‘Best Small Project’ from AJ Retrofit; ‘Gold Award for Architectural Heritage’ by Green Apple; ‘Best Sustainability Project’ by the London District Surveyors Association.

PETER WILSONPeter is an architect, writer and director of of <a href="https://www.timberdesigninitiatives.eu/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Timber Design Initiatives (TDI</a>) Ltd. and its vanguard professional education project, the Mass Timber Academy. Following 15 years at Edinburgh Napier University where he headed the Wood Studio, one of five specialist timber research centres within the Institute for Sustainable Construction, Peter established the company in 2015 to develop new Europe-wide approaches to education, innovation and demonstration of best practice in the use of wood in architecture, design and construction through applied research collaborations with academia and industry. Peter’s own researches have focused on the development and possible production of mass timber systems manufactured from UK-grown timber, a subject that has both pre-occupied and frustrated him for over 12 years since there is still no significant UK manufacturing capacity for this. Peter speaks regularly at international conferences and has, over the past 20 years, written countless journal and magazine articles promoting the use of timber in construction. He is the author of two books - New Timber Architecture in Scotland and The Modern Timber House in the UK: New Paradigms and Technologies.

PHIL OBAYDAPhil is an architect at SOM, he has worked on a broad range of projects including residential, commercial, educational, transport and hospitality schemes in the UK and overseas. Phil leads the technical design on a series of complex landmark projects including a number of high rise residential schemes in London, taking these from concept stage through to construction. In collaboration with his US colleagues, he also leads the SOM UK office’s efforts of researching and promoting the use of structural timber in the projects they undertake.
