Using the medium of clay offers people the unique ability to make objects for both utilitarian and decorative roles. In this course, students will delve into the world of tile making, both as sculpture and as functional pieces. While exploring multiple methods for creating small batches of tile, there will be a strong emphasis on hand building, slab rolling, and one-part press molding clay tiles. This course is for beginner and intermediate levels. Students will be encouraged to design and pursue their unique and highly personal tile ideas, while learning to incorporate many different surfacing techniques such as embossing, engraving, image making, and glaze finishing.

Tuesdays, 9am–12 pm

Included: One 25 lb bag of mid-range stoneware clay
Materials List
- Basic pottery tool kit
- (needle tool, rib, sponge, trimming tools, wooden tools, wire cutter)
- Apron or studio clothing
- Dust mask or respirator
- (recommended for sanding or working with dry materials)
- Plastic sheeting
- (to cover works in progress)
- Small container for slip and tools
- Sketchbook or notebook
- (for planning and notes)
Refund Policy
- A full refund is available up to 7 days before the first class session.
- Cancellations made within 7 days of the start date are eligible for a 50% refund.
- No refunds are issued after the first class meeting.
- Missed classes cannot be refunded or rescheduled.
