A trail is only as safe and beautiful as its monitors are knowledgable and perceptive. Learn what to look out for when monitoring a trail and how to address common issues you may encounter.
Participants will meet at the Stewardship Training Center to walk the trails at Halfway Pond Conservation Area, where Wildlands staff will point out key elements of trail safety and health to notice as a volunteer monitor.
This is the fourth and final module of Wildlands' Tier 1 Volunteer Training Series, equipping current and prospective volunteers with core stewardship skills. Last summer, Wildlands convened a focus group of municipal conservation departments and committees to identify the skills they prioritize in land stewardship volunteers. These conversations aided in the development of this curriculum. After completing four two-hour modules at the Stewardship Training Center, participants will receive Tier 1 certification, detailing the skills they learned from experienced Wildlands staff and partners. The modules are as follows:
Volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend all four modules (except First Aid + CPR, if they are already certified) and receive Tier 1 certification. Wildlands will offer these modules again in the future.
All current and interested land stewardship volunteers are welcome to attend. These sessions will also enable trainees to meet like-minded individuals from the region and discover new ways to get involved with local conservation.
