Overzicht

Greg Malcolm creates a hypnotic, one-man acoustic orchestra using modified guitars, drones, and global folk roots in a captivating live gig

Just like Jim

Just Like Jim is a mesmerising programme in which Greg Malcolm gives himself over completely to the 1950s Hofner archtop guitar he inherited from his late grandfather, Jim Spence. In a stripped-back sonic world, Greg fuses his long-running fascination with rembetika and klezmer with memories of his grandfather’s love of ‘ham’ radio, pushing the restored guitar to its outer limits. Personal storytelling, extended techniques and rich melodies come together in a spellbinding performance that also addresses the role of the artist head-on. The work ventures into new thematic territory, exploring memory, nature, storytelling, history and the passage of time through a sonic lens that is entirely his own.
