About this event

The National Blues Museum’s Thursday Night Blues Jam is every Thursday from 7-9 PM (doors open at 6:30). Performers and non-performers alike are welcome to join in our all skill-levels celebration of the improvisatory art of blues music. Admission to the jam is free for performers and members of the National Blues Museum, with a $5 ticket cost for non-performers and non-members. Enjoy NBM's bar and signature drinks, with outside food (no drinks) allowed!

Our jam session comes with the excitement of a house band led by trumpeter and composer Kasimu Taylor. The Thursday Night Blues Jam is an inclusive space where musicians of all skill levels and all ages can gain experience on the bandstand. Bring your instrument or voice to learn from and network with fellow musicians! If you’re looking to refresh your chops or are brand new to blues (seriously, newcomers, this is the jam session in town for you), come to the National Blues Museum’s Thursday Night Blues Jam!

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell food or drinks?

NBM does not sell food, but there are great restaurants nearby. Check out Hi-Pointe, Sugarfire, or Snarfs for dinner. You can also bring food from home. There is no outside alcohol. A bar with drinks is available for onsite refreshments.

Where should I park?

NBM recommends the 7th Street Garage at 601 Locust Street Street. The bar sells parking vouchers for $6 for this garage.

Is this event family friendly?

Yes, the jam is for all ages, but artists may have songs that have mature themes. No different than the radio!

What equipment do I need to bring?

NBM has a full backline featuring a drum set (with breakables), Nord keyboard, 1 guitar amplifier, 1 bass amplifier, and microphones for singers/harmonica/horn players. Bring your instrument and any additional equipment you might need that isn’t covered above.

What skill level do I need to be at to sign up and perform?

Musicians of all skill levels are welcome and encouraged to come and perform! This jam session is a safe space for learning and growing your skill set.

Can I perform as a solo musician or do I have to perform with a band?

Musicians are welcome to perform 1-2 songs solo but don’t feel shy about getting up with others even if you don’t know what you’ll play. Our jam session is a brave space to try things out and take chances!

How do I sign up to perform during the jam?

There is a sign-up sheet at the entrance to the concert space where you can write down your name and instrument. People will be called up and paired with others as the night goes on, with priority given to newcomers to the jam session who haven’t gotten a chance to play.
