Oak Park Festival Theatreperforms timeless plays in distinctive spaces and creates empowering educational programming, both of which foster dialogue, strengthen relationships, and explore the depth of the human experience.Founded in 1975, Oak Park Festival Theatre is the Midwest’s oldest professional classical outdoor theater.  Our unique partnership with the Park District of Oak Park allows us to produce Shakespeare and other theatre masters each summer in idyllic Austin Gardens in the heart of downtown Oak Park.  When not outdoors, we perform in other historic venues such as Pleasant Home and Cheney Mansion, also operated by the Park District of Oak Park.

Featuring Johnny Lee Davenport as Justice Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American to sit on the Supreme Court, Thurgood spans Marshall’s impressive career as a lawyer, arguing such landmark cases as Brown v. Board of Education. Presented during the final month of the Obama Administration, Thurgoodis a tribute to Marshall’s enduring legacy.
