Description

A select group of horse industry leaders from central Kentucky are invited to attend this presentation and lunch to hear plans for Retired Racehorse Project's Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium. The Thoroughbred Makeover takes place at Kentucky Horse Park on the weekend before Breeders Cup 2015.

Steuart Pittman and Carolyn Karlson of RRP will explain how this event, with some 300 horses and trainers signed up to vie for a projected $100,000 in prize money, has caused a run on retired racehorses across North America.

Rosie Napravnik, recently retired jockey and board member of RRP, will discuss the channels through which racehorses end up in the hands of competent people who can secure their futures with effective second career training.

Stephanie Church, Editor of The Horse, will announce a partnership between RRP and Blood-Horse Pulblications to publish Off-Track Thoroughbred Magazine.

Erin Crady, Executive Director of Thoroughbred Charities of America, will explain how Retired Racehorse Project, the Thoroughbred Makeover, and Off-Track Thoroughbred Magazine have the potential to shift the focus of aftercare in a way that benefits the horses, the owners, and the public perception of racing.

Guests will be invited to comment, ask questions, and sign on to participate in the planning, promotion, and sponsorship of the Thoroughbred Makeover.

The Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) is a 501(c)3 charitable organization working to increase demand for off-track Thoroughbreds beyond racing. In addition to producing the Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium, the world’s largest and most lucrative retraining competition for recently-retired racehorses, the organization also maintains an educational library of content to empower more equestrians to ride a Thoroughbred, offers the only Thoroughbred-only online horse listings, and conducts clinics and seminars throughout the country.
