#ThisIs18 Panel Discussion

As a part of Undergraduate Student Government, the Speakers Committee serves the University of Southern California students, staff, faculty, and surrounding community by bringing a multitude of diversified speakers to campus every academic school year.The goal of our speakers is to provide insight, education, entertainment, and the promotion of diversity through cultural awareness. Past speakers include Barack Obama, Oliver Stone, Dr. Drew, Natalie Portman, Maya Angelou and Spike Lee.

USC FIsher Museum of Art Presents:
#Thisis18
What does girlhood look like around the world? The New York Times commissioned young women photographers in nearly two dozen countries to find out. The result is #Thisis18, a new photography book that celebrates girlhood across six continents.
EXHIBITION: The exhibition will be on view at the Fisher Museum of Art through February 15th. Museum hours are Wednesday-Friday: 12PM - 5pm and Saturday: 12PM - 4 PM.
Select photographs from the project will be on display in the Quinn Wing at the Fisher Museum of Art. Curated by The New York Times and sponsored by USC Speakers Committee and Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.

Join us to celebrate this exciting project with a panel and reception on February 11th, featuring Jessica Bennett, Anya Strzemien, Sharon Attia, and Hélène Françoise Philippe in conversation with Alison Trope.
PANELIST BIOS:
Jessica Bennett is an award-winning journalist who writes on women and culture. She is the author of Feminist Fight Club: A Survival Manual for a Sexist Workplace.
Anya Strzemien is a deputy editor of the The New York Times Styles section. Her first job in media was a ‘zine she created in her bedroom at age 15 called Love.
Sharon Attia is a researcher and social media editor for the Times. When she was 18 — not that long ago! — she had to physically flip her camera around to take a selfie.
Hélène Françoise Philippe is a resident virtual reality artist at TecnoLatinx, a VR lab in Los Angeles. She was a subject for the #ThisIs18 project.
MODERATOR BIO:
Alison Trope is Clinical Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies at USC's Annenberg School for Communication. She founded and serves as Director of the <A HREF="https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.criticalmediaproject.org_&d=DwMDaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=g-w3So5l7k55XS0HxYhlxA&m=ER9t04Kn6FKriZVVkNXwwbW30AhxOooeXMIj2-xEwGw&s=IRvx5CPVQLz1grbMo6ms8qSE55c3CDuvcPQx9ilUVVo&e=" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Critical Media Project</A> (CMP), a web-based media literacy resource at the intersection of media literacy and identity (gender, race, class, sexuality, religion, age and disability). CMP is used in the Los Angeles Unified School District and other secondary and higher education institutions across the United States. Extending her work in media literacy, Trope sits on the Board of the National Association of Media Literacy Educators. Her other academic writing examines the history and current state of Hollywood philanthropy and activism.
