About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

Enjoy a fabulous girls’ or date night out with appetizers and drink as we delve into what Abigail Fillmore, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Laura Bush all have in common — the fact that they were all teachers! You’ll get an inside look into our newly opened 2024-25 featured exhibit, “Leaders in Literacy: First Ladies as Teachers, Librarians, and Educators” at our Third Thursdays Night Out with the First Ladies. The exhibit is presented by Huntington Bank, and in this curator-led, specialized talk and tour, guests will be fully immersed in the exhibit.

Our May Third Thursday will center itself around Eleanor Roosevelt and her revolutionary education experiment – Arthurdale. You may have heard of her time as a teacher in New York, but you probably didn’t know of her important work in the Appalachian region of West Virginia, where she founded Arthurdale, an experimental communal village dedicated to elevating the experience of an impoverished community through education.
