About this event

Volunteers have been an essential part of our repair and regeneration efforts after the CZU August Lightning Complex fire burned through Pie Ranch in August. We welcome volunteers onto the land every third Saturday from 2pm - 5pm.

The Third Saturday volunteer day begins in the Native Garden that Pie Ranch co-created with the Amah Mutsun Land Trust. Some of us will stay in the garden for the entirety of the work day and some will venture to other projects around the farm. The type of jobs we do on volunteer days depend on what needs to get done on the farm each season. Volunteers help with planting, weeding, harvests, culling and mulching. There is also maintenance work to be done— cleaning up areas that have been damaged by the wildfire, removing debris, and renovating living and working spaces for staff. The majority of our volunteer opportunities are hard but gratifying physical labor on the farm. Most jobs require heavy lifting, squatting and bending, lots of walking and a full day out in the sun, wind, or other coastal weather.

Be ready for your volunteer shift by bringing the following gear with you to Pie Ranch:

  • Mask
  • Water bottle
  • Sun hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Work clothes (ones you don’t mind getting dirty or worn out)
  • Sturdy shoes for field work
  • Gloves
  • Snacks

Safe & Sanitary Practices during COVID-19

If you are not vaccinated or boosted and believe you may have been exposed to COVID-19, please get tested immediately and test regularly (every 3 days) and wear a well fitted mask prior to coming to the farm. This ensures the safety of other volunteers as well as Pie Ranch staff.

We at Pie Ranch want to do our best to provide you with all the things you need to feel comfortable and safe. Upon arrival at the volunteer station volunteers are given waivers to sign, PPE to don (if working the food pack station) and an area to wash hands along with food and drink protocol. The pack and farm chores take place in an outside area or porous barns and all volunteers and staff may wear masks if they wish.

To save time, please read and sign waiver forms prior to your arrival. Click this link to do so:
