Aperçu

America faces profoundly difficult problems.  Most troubling our inability to talk without resorting to angry rhetoric, or mere silence when we wish to say more. SMU’s Third Rail Series breaks that silence, helping our community discuss the topics others won’t, doing it all in a thoughtful and respectful manner befitting a great university.

Join SMU scholars Maria Dixon Hall, Matthew Wilson and Jeffrey A. Engel for an open public discussion on a sensitive topic that we are facing today.

TOPIC: The 2016 presidential campaign has revealed unusual anger and extremism.  Should political discourse be less sensitive to identity politics?

Light coffee service will precede the event beginning at 6:30 pm, with the discussion starting at 7:00 pm.

Parking will be available on the SMU campus. FREE passes will be emailed to registered guests before the event.  Seating is limited, and not guaranteed.

Maria Dixon Hall is SMU Associate Professor of Corporate Communication and Public Affairs. Matthew Wilson is SMU Associate Professor of Political Science. Jeffrey A. Engel is Director of the Center for Presidential History at SMU.
