An evening with Bill McKibben

Renowned Climate Activist, Author, Journalist

Third Act Oregon presents an intimate conversation with author, educator and environmental activist Bill McKibben about what we can do right now to save our planet and our democracy. Bill will talk about what’s bringing him joy, what gives him hope, and why he believes that, working together, we can have a huge impact on making our world a better place for generations to come.

Bill is renowned for mobilizing popular support for action on climate justice and democracy. He has authored 20 books, including The End of Nature (1989) which is regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change. He also helped found 350.org, the first global grassroots climate campaign. In 2022 he founded Third Act, a national organization with over 70,000 members that organizes people in or near retirement for action on protecting our climate and democracy.

Don’t miss this rare chance to spend an evening with one of the world’s most beloved and important environmentalists and global thinkers. Mingle with Third Act Oregon and climate activists from all over the state after the main presentation and enjoy light refreshments in the First Unitarian Church beautiful, air-conditioned Buchan Room.

Organized by

Third Act Oregon brings together the political and economic power of Oregonians in their third act of life (near or in retirement) to move local communities in the direction of a more sustainable society and planet. Our demographic is large, we have a wealth of life experience, we have huge economic power, and we VOTE. When we put our voices together, we are powerful.

Saving Our Planet

We can’t afford to keep endangering our planet by burning fossil fuels. Third Act Oregon advocates for the rapid transition from fossil fuels to clean renewable energy.

No Oregonian can forget the devastating wildfires in 2020 that burned over 1 million acres, cost an estimated $609 million, destroyed over 4000 homes, and blanketed our state in toxic smoke. This is not the legacy we want to leave to future generations. The time to act is now.

Banking on the Future

Third Act’s current campaign is putting pressure on the four largest banks—Citibank, Wells Fargo, Chase, and Bank of America—to stop funding the energy infrastructure of the past and to start funding the energy infrastructure of the future. Protecting Democracy

Anti-democratic forces are curtailing voting rights, gerrymandering voting districts, harassing and intimidating voting officials, and politicizing the counting and certification of votes. Third Act works to safeguard our democracy at national, state and local levels.
