    Join us for an enriching yoga workshop tailored exclusively for certified yoga teachers seeking to deepen their practice and refine their teaching skills!

    This immersive experience takes place over the last weekend of every month starting June 29th and 30th from 1:30-4:30pm!

    Meet your Instructors:

    Renaissance international yoga teacher, advocate, activist, educator and mentor. Renaissance has created free and accessible yoga programming in multiple cities for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. Renaissance is founder of Well and Blacker, teaches for Modo Yoga, Hot 8 Yoga as well as private and corporate retreats/workshops.

    Shakira affectionately known as Your Local Yoga Dealer is a virtual and in-person instructor specializing in Vinyasa, Barre, Yin Yoga and guided meditation. Founder of Black to Yoga, athletic trainer to NFL and college athletes, builds yoga ciriculum for children and develops corporate wellness packages. Over the past 10 years Shakira had taught thousands of yoga classes in partnerships with varies athletic and beverage brands. This spring, Your Local Yoga Dealer opened it's newest location inside the Groundfloor Echo Park social club (where this training will take place)!


    The Workshop for Teachers offers advanced techniques on how-to sequence, use appropriate language, effective cueing, form effective music playlist that support your class, voice control, how-to safely administer hands-on adjustments vs. verbal adjustments, and in-depth discussions on philosophy and mindfulness. Through interactive sessions and collaborative learning, TT's will learn the art of creating inclusive, empowering yoga spaces.     Frequently asked questions

    Is there parking?

    Yes! There is residential parking as well as metered street parking. There is also a unmonitored parking lot a few doors down (on the same block). We have an agreement with the owners of the parking lot that our guests can park in the lot during our business hours.

    Should I bring a mat?

    Feel free to bring your own mat, props, whatever you feel comfortable with. The studio has mats and props as well. Dress comfortably, bring a snack, water bottle, maybe a notebook. (All other materials will be provided for you.)

    Shakira Scott, affectionally known as "Your Local Yoga Dealer", is a Bay Area native, private and group yoga instructor specializing in Vinyasa and Yin Yoga and guided meditation.

    Sole Founder of the Black to Yoga event series, Shakira actively works to showcase Black yoga instructors while also introducing yoga to communities of color. Early 2017, she met and began training Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch which has opened her training technique to athletes. She was invited to the 2019 Raiders Training Camp to train players which caught the eye of the HBO show, Hard Knocks. Her alignment based classes include supported motivation and guidance, as well as time to explore one's own body.

    After opening a pop-up studio, Your Local Yoga Studio for a few months in Old Oakland in early 2019, Shakira currently teaches yoga and meditation at a handful of gyms/studios, schools, retail spaces, corporate offices, retreats, open spaces in the state of California, coining the title, ‘Your Local Yoga Dealer’.

     

    Class Description (unless otherwise noted) - Yin/Yang Yoga (60 min)

    Building strength, the mind/body connection and flexibility, are just a few of the realms we will explore through a mindful vinyasa flow to 90s R&B, alternative music, reggae, jazz with a splash of meditative sounds. A mixed level class that offers modifications and adjustments based on one's own practice. Postures both powerful and restorative send the student traveling through asanas linked to their inhales and exhales (Vinyasa Flow, Yang) while the Yin side of the practice promotes openness of the lower body by holding asanas for up to two minutes. Class ends with pranayama and meditation.
