The World Doesn't Stop at the Skin: Figure, Landscape, Art, and Ecosystem with Chris Lanier

Thursday, August 15, 5:30 p.m.

Chris Lanier, the 2024 Reno City Artist and Teaching Professor of Digital Art at UNR at Lake Tahoe, will share work that explores the porous interface between human presence and the "natural" world. This includes his offbeat digital photography, and videos created in collaboration with director/choreographer Kristin Heavey, working with dancers and drones in the outdoor landscape. The common thread in this work is the desire to blur the distinctions between the self and the world – guided by the belief that who we are, and where we are, are fundamentally entangled categories. Along the way, he'll discuss the opportunities and ironies inherent in using digital technologies to record ephemeral and exploratory analog experiences.
