The bureaucratic operation of higher education is one of the most effective contemporary methods of interlocking and perpetuating the cultural and political hegemonies wrought by imperial powers, capitalist economies, patriarchal and white supremacist ideologies. The modern university is an inert structure and deft instrument of perpetuating the privileged ideals and interests of mythic norms while cloaked in a guise of emancipatory and universal relevance. The Uncool School workshop will engage students, alumni, faculty, and others in radically re-imagining education not as a technocratic process, but rather as a sociocultural practice. This workshop will include the voices, identities, and creations of its participants in dreaming of self-determined agencies, transformation scenarios, organizational configurations, places of play, and planes of consciousness within a future school.
This event is an in-person event for the VCUarts Qatar community only.

The 2022 conference Radical Futures addresses the role of design in shaping the future. Tasmeem Doha 2022: Radical Futures is an inclusive and multi-faceted view of the future, one that not only speculates on technological advancements—but on future threats and changes whether environmental, geographical, cultural, or social. Now more than ever, we must ask pertinent questions, raise critical dialogues, and respond with clarity.
