The Tree’s Dream

The MAIN is the home for music, comedy, film, theatre, visual art, classes and workshops, meetings and serves as the welcome center for visitors to Old Town Newhall. The venue has been around for 20 years but, as of February 2017 the City of Santa Clarita took over operation and management of the space.The theater has been transformed into a multi-use arts center including a monthly rotating art gallery, and free programs every Thursday night.The venue is also available for private rentals, filming and productions.

“The Tree’s Dream,” is a journey into the subconscious mind of a single tree, alone in a deserted wasteland. The Tree’s life is fading after so many years of loss and loneliness. She refuses to bloom, even when a gentle young Forest Sprite tries to help her. But when a majestic Turkey Vulture uses his magical powers to guide the little Forest Sprite through the many layers of the Tree’s dreaming mind, hope is rekindled. There, in the midst of the Tree’s dream the Vulture believes that little Sprite may better empathize with the Tree and bring her the hope and strength to bloom again. A colorful combination of puppets, (marionettes and bunraku) and masked performers express the Tree’s hidden emotional memories gathered, stored and even lost to abstraction throughout its long life. Created and performed by The Elephantoms Puppet Theater, “The Tree’s Dream,” asks if we can heal the loneliness, the sadness of other living creatures by using our magical ability to empathize, no matter how different we are from one another.

Doors open 30 minutes prior to show time. Seating is first come, first serve.
