The City of Perryville proudly announces the advance screening of THE SPRING, a gripping supernatural thriller written and directed by local filmmaker Thomas Smugala (IMDB https://rb.gy/98v7jr) and produced by L.A.-based renowned producer John Steven Schneider (IMDB https://rb.gy/dncd70). The film follows a determined young mixed-race woman’s fight to clear her name of murder charges while confronting a serial killer family’s 150-year reign of terror in Perryville, Missouri.

Filmed primarily in Perryville, THE SPRING (IMDB https://rb.gy/rzocc0) showcases the region’s talent and locations, with support from the City of Perryville, Stark Properties, and numerous other local businesses and residents. Smugala, a proud advocate of the region he lovingly calls “NoWhereWood,” leverages its low-cost production environment through his company, Motion Dog Films, to enhance production value and extend shooting schedules of his films. His commitment to local actors, crew, and locations has established Motion Dog Films as a leader in independent filmmaking in the region. Smugala also partnered with Perryville Tourism to launch FilmFriendlyPerryville.com, a program to attract more low-budget productions to the area. Motion Dog Films is in pre-production for a new feature film, set to begin shooting in Perryville in 2025/2026.
