Preview of the trailor-Director Emily Arndt held interviews with our American neighbors and political experts, meeting them one-on-one across the East Coast, on the streets of Washington, DC, for “woman on the street,” and in a focus group in York, PA.
Each interview with everyday Americans and experts teaches Arndt something new. She learns how divided Americans are and the complicated effects of the news media, social media, and human instincts on our political behavior.
The people interviewed are diverse and represent many communities in the United States. Black, Indigenous, and Other People of Color (BIPOC), white Americans, immigrant Americans, and LGBTQIA backgrounds are represented in this film, plus a variety of political beliefs.
We hear what it’s like to be in their shoes, how they’re misunderstood, and what it feels like to be misunderstood. Each interviewee was chosen because they’re open to conversations with people different from them. Will you be just as open?
After the preview, we will have a panel discussion with behavioral health experts to learn ways to talk with those we believe have different values. Without conversations with people outside of our current "party" or beliefs, we won't repair the divide.
Bring an open mind and a willingness to hear those around you. You do not have to agree but a positive attitude is highly encouraged. Seats are first-come, first-served. Our venue is on the second floor. Unfortunately, we do not have an escalator or elevator. All attendees will need to be able to navigate stairs.
If a refund is requested, you will receive the ticket price. Eventbrite does not refund its processing fee. You can get a refund up to seven days before the event. After that time, all ticket sales will be considered a donation to the film's completion and preserving democracy by encouraging ongoing discussion.
