Welcome to The Santa Monica Open Mic at Kavahana!

Hosted by singer/songwriter Abby Lokelani (@abbylokelani), this weekly event is your stage in the heart of Santa Monica. Use this Eventbrite to RSVP and secure your attendance. To sign up for a performance slot in advance, please use our dedicated Google Form: Sign-Up Form.

While the event is free to attend and open to all, we encourage you to support our venue by trying one of Kavahana’s unique kava nectar drinks.

Venue Highlights:
Kavahana is a unique, non-alcoholic bar and lounge that brings a taste of the South Pacific Islands and Hawaii to Los Angeles. We feature an exclusive selection of craft kava nectar drinks that offer non-alcoholic drinks you can actually feel—perfect for setting the mood!

Event Details:

  • Arrival: Please arrive by 7:00 PM if you are performing. We encourage you to arrive by 7:45 if you are planning on being in the audience, so you don't miss any of the acts!
  • One Drink Minimum: Participation requires at least one drink purchase. After getting your drink, you’ll receive a slip to write your name on and drop in our "performance bucket."
  • Performance Order: Acts are randomly selected. ***Sign up online to ensure your slot in the "early bucket," guaranteeing you one of the first performances of the night.
  • Set Time: Limit your performance to two songs or a maximum of 10 minutes to ensure everyone gets a chance to shine.
  • Equipment: A PA system and keyboard are provided. Bring your own guitar or instrument.

Calling All Songwriters:
This is a platform for original music, though tasteful covers are also welcome. Please, NO backing tracks.

Do I need to RSVP to attend?

No, RSVP is not required to attend and watch the performances; it's free and open to all. However, RSVPing through Eventbrite helps us estimate attendance and is highly appreciated.

What time should performers arrive?

Performers are encouraged to arrive by 7:00 PM. If you did not sign up online, day of sign up is first come first served. The event officially starts at 8:00 PM.

Is there a minimum age requirement to enter the event?

There is no age restriction to attend or perform at the open mic. Kava Nectar drinks are recommended for 18+, however Kavahana offers a family-friendly environment suitable for all ages.

What are the drink requirements?

We have a one-drink minimum to support Kavahana, which features a variety of non-alcoholic kava nectar drinks. Your purchase helps us keep these events going!

What type of performances can I expect?

Expect a mix of original music and tasteful covers from local songwriters and musicians.

What equipment is provided for performers?

We provide a PA system and a keyboard. Performers must bring any other instruments or special equipment they require. We have a "live music only" policy and do not accept backing tracks.

What happens if I miss my performance slot?

If you miss your slot, we'll try to accommodate you later in the evening if time allows. However, priority will be given to those who are present at their designated times.
