This special event, hosted by The Big Red Steelheads men's lacrosse team, promises an atmosphere filled with electrifying tunes and positive energy. It's not just about having a good time—this night is dedicated to a meaningful cause. All net proceeds from the event will be split equally between the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), supporting their vital work in the fight against blood cancers; and Hope for Miracles, Inc., joining the fight against neuroblastoma (cancer of the nervous system). This contribution aids in funding research, patient support, and advocacy efforts. So, gather your friends and enjoy a night of memorable music while contributing to a noble cause. Fifteen years ago, in 2008, we lost David Holder, a former Cornell University Big Red lacrosse player, to a valiant fight against a rare form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Wearing number 28, David profoundly impacted many lives, exemplifying exceptional spirit both on the lacrosse field and in his personal battles. Despite the challenges of his diagnosis in the spring of 2008, David's optimism and determination remained unwavering, inspiring us all with the belief in the possibility of miracles. His struggle intensified over the summer, and by fall, we faced the heartbreaking loss of a beloved friend, father, husband, and son.

David's legacy, however, is defined by his action-oriented, hopeful, and competitive nature, not by his untimely departure. In tribute to his memory, shortly after his passing, some of David's Cornell class and teammates formed the Big Red Steelheads, an amateur lacrosse team composed of Cornell alumni and current players. The team, named after David's fondness for fishing, symbolizes our collective effort to honor his passion for life and lacrosse.

This year, as the Big Red Steelheads gather for the Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse Tournament, our mission transcends individual memory to embrace a broader cause. In honoring David Holder, we also pay tribute to teammates, family members, and the broader Cornell lacrosse community affected by cancer—celebrating the lives we've cherished, the survivors who inspire us, and the next generation continuing this brave fight. Our solidarity is further deepened as we remember Hall of Fame coach Ritchie Moran, who we lost in 2022 to pulmonary fibrosis. By aligning our efforts with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, we not only honor these individuals but also fortify our commitment to battling the diseases that have touched so many within our ranks. It's a commitment that reflects the strength, resilience, and hope that Dave, Coach Moran, and countless others have demonstrated, fostering a legacy of inspiration and support within the Cornell lacrosse family and beyond.
