Join us for the first annual Project Rebound at Cal State LA's The Rough Draft:, a symposium celebrating the spirit of our collective heart, soul, and impetus to rupture the narrative in pursuit of a college degree and a meaningful reintegration. The Rough Draft reminds us to remeber that there is always room to grow and our lives are not defined by our past, rathe we are brand new all the time. Reimagining the life posibilities and manifesting for our lifetime. The Rough Draft intentionally centers our community college students with a carceral experience to support their acclimation to the university culture, provide camaraderie on their journey towards transfer, and inviting them to important spaces where their voices can and should be heard. Come and celebrate the beautiful and works in progress that we all are--together.Workshops, panels, and a special screening of MTV award-winning documentary film "Art and Krimes" on Saturday.Be﻿ sure to register for both days if you plan to attend. Food will be served and opportunity to win prizes.S﻿schedule will be announced soon...

To end mass incarceration we also need to change the narrative around it. Storytelling has the power to change the world, which is why we’re thrilled about the premiere of the documentary film ART &amp; KRIMES BY KRIMES opening September 30th in NYC and LA. The film centers on the story of Jesse Krimes, a visual artist who survived incarceration by smuggling out his monumental artwork piece-by-piece. The film also features other acclaimed artists impacted by incarceration such as Russel Craig, Jared Owens and Gilberto Rivera.

The film has garnered much success on the film festival circuit and ARTnews called it “an eye-opening look at how one artist is seeking to lift the veil on a part of American society that has been made largely invisible to the public.”

The Formerly Incarcerated Populations Conference that gives rise for The Rough Draft:, owes a debt of gratitude for the commitment to elevating our cause that was demonstrated by Dr. Frances Siu. A friend to all and a mother figure to many, Dr. Siu carried our message and ensured that we would continue to have a platform for years to come even as her ability to be present with us grew shorter. We honor her life, fire an courage to stand up for what is just, and her life. An will continue to do so every year when we kick off the Rough Draft. We love and cherish you Dr. Siu!
