The Postpartum Project

THE POSTPARTUM PROJECT is a theatre production group working to empower new mothers.  Our first performance was a reading at Dixon Place in April 2018.  It was followed by a presentation at NYU’s Performance as Activism Forum. We expect that staging these words will validate the experiences of new moms in this country.  We hope to attract policy makers, health care workers and educators to join our audience. We will host talkbacks and take suggestions on next steps to solving this problem.

New moms are sharing their experiences and it's time to listen.  Join us to change the conversation.  The Postpartum Project is based on interviews with new mothers in the United States.  Women were interviewed about their experiences after birth in the hospital, how they fed their babies, recovered from childbirth, cared for themselves and what happened as they returned to the workforce.  The play aims to change the conversation about postpartum care. It calls attention to how and why the U.S. lags behind worldwide standards.
