Kolaj Institute supports artists, curators, and writers who seek to study, document, & disseminate ideas that deepen our understanding of collage as a medium, a genre, a community, and a 21st century movement

The Pixel Party is an evening of music, food, cash bar, projected animated GIFs, and an interactive assembly of an 8x12 foot artwork.

The Broadside

At The Pixel Party , the Kolaj Fest community will assemble a monumental 12-foot by 8-foot artwork, led by artist Lance Carlson. As you enter the event, you will be handed a pixel in the form of a 3-inch square collage and be invited to place it on a grid. As the evening progresses, an image will emerge. In doing this, we perform in a fullbodied, living, breathing way what occurs in digital space.Lance Carlson is an Atlanta-based artist with an architectural background. He is a founding member and past co-president of the Atlanta Collage Society and has been a Signature member of National Collage Society. In 2012, he designed and helped implement “The Marilyn Project” with the Atlanta Collage Society. This monumental (8-foot square) work is made of 841, three-inch square collages that assemble to form a giant image of Andy Warhol’s iconic portrait of Marilyn Monroe.
