About this event

Learn the tricks to making your very own delicious pies with the expert baking team of Honeypie Bakeshop. Held inside our bakeshop kitchen at our sister cafe Palomino, this hands-on class will guide you through a variety of different aspects of pie making. There is lots of room for questions and answers during each class so come with all of your crust conundrums and filling inquiries!


This very fun lesson in Sweet & Savoy Hand pie making is led by Lead Baker, Brooke Ogierman. We'll give you a lesson in butter pie crust and then a lesson in rolling and folding techniques to get the perfect little, yummy hand-held pies. We'll provide you with sweet and savory fillings for your pies and each student will make 6 hand pies with the fillings of their choosing. We will bake them off in class and in the end you will have delicious treats to take home to share (or keep for yourself!)


Ticket for class includes all of your ingredients, your finished hand pies, recipes with tips and tricks and a drink ticket for the bar.


Classes are approximately 2-3 hours and are limited to 12 people. We do stand most of the time and work at a table in a working professional kitchen - please let us know if you need an accomodation made for class and we'll gladly make arrangements. Please wear clothing you don't mind getting flour on and closed-toe, non-slip shoes.


(Please note, we often have wait lists for our pie classes. Tickets to class are non-refundable if you cancel without more than 72 hours notice. If you need to cancel within 72 hours of class, you are welcome to email us, and we will offer your spot to a person on the waiting list. If it is taken by someone waiting, we will refund your ticket. You are also welcome to give your ticket to a friend and they can attend in your place.)

Valeri Lucks is the co-founder and Chief Executive Pie Officer of Honeypie Cafe + Bakeshop in Milwaukee, WI.  Armed with her mother's pie crust recipe, she has been baking pies since she was knee-high to a grasshopper.  Pies are the darlings of her locally-focused restaurants Honeypie, Comet, SmallPie and Palomino as well as her mail-order pie program, PieGram.  Valeri's recipes and pies have been featured in Food and Wine magazine, Travel and Leisure magazine, Time Out Chicago, Time Out USA, Milwaukee Magazine, OnMilwaukee.com, Milwaukee Journal Sentinal, Wisconsin Public Radio and the Discovery Channel's United States of Bacon.  When she is not baking pies she can be found sampling bourbon with her husband and playing records for her dog.
