An example of person-centred counselling in action; David Mearns giving a demonstration in 1992 of person-centred counselling on a diploma in counselling course.

Terry Daly

Saturday 31st August 2024

This workshop will be a rare opportunity to see a demonstration of David Mearns author of the person-centred counselling in action books. Originally the video was created on a diploma at Strathclyde University used as a teaching tool with students. The video prompted Dave to write a chapter in his book “developing person-centred counselling in action “called “ the quality of presence”.

The aim of the workshop will be to give people an opportunity to look at a demonstration of person-centred counselling and then explore reactions and responses. There will also be an opportunity in the workshop small group work to think about our own practice and any questions that the demonstration might raise.

The workshop will be facilitated by Terry Daly, who was “the client” in the video and will be answering questions about his experience.

This workshop is closely linked to 2 other PCT Scotland workshops being delivered by Louise Wilson (the person-centred approach a call to arms -https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-person-centred-approach-in-action-a-series-of-workshops-tickets-882833999257 ) and Susan Stephen (congruent functioning - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/882836998227?aff=oddtdtcreator).
