Welcome to The Need to Belong event!

Everyone has a family history, but only a select few can trace their lineage to significant historical events, places, occupations, and individuals. From ancestors who sailed on the Mayflower or fought in the Revolutionary War to those who were innkeepers, indentured servants, or even descendants of royalty—YOU may be eligible to join a lineage society!

Join Adam Boyce of West Windsor, VT, a lifelong history enthusiast with a deep passion for genealogy, as he shares his remarkable journey of uncovering his family’s connections to history. Inspired by his paternal aunt, Miriam “Mim” Herwig, who generously shared her extensive research, Adam’s genealogy journey began in 1985. His membership in the Vermont Mayflower Society in 2001, followed by the Pilgrim Hopkins Heritage Society in 2006, marked the start of his exploration into hereditary societies. Through his research during the COVID-19 pandemic, Adam discovered numerous groups he was eligible to join, culminating in membership in forty-six societies.

In this engaging talk, Adam will present the highlights of his genealogical research and discoveries from 2019 to 2022. While not a "how-to" guide, he will provide valuable insights into sources and general information that could inspire others to explore their connections to American and world history. Beyond his passion for genealogy, Adam Boyce is also a well-known Yankee fiddler, composer, and sugarmaker.

Discover the rich tapestry of history that may lie within your own family and the possibilities of joining a lineage society!
