<DIV>Juneteenth CELEBRATION </DIV>
<DIV>JUNETEENTH, also known as, The African American Independence Day is one of the oldest holiday in American history. Juneteenth is an American holiday commemorating the announcement of the abolishment of slavery on June 19th 1865. The Union Soldiers sailed into Galveston Texas,announced the end of The Civil War and read aloud General Granger's Order No. 3. This announced the freeing a quarter of a million slaves in the state.</DIV>
<DIV>Our goal is to educate our community on the meaning & history of Juneteenth. </DIV>

<DIV>    In 2001, Tracy Johnson( also known as Ras Tra) became the founder of The Juneteenth Celebration in East Saint Louis. It all began as a Father's Day family gathering and celebration. Today, The celebration has grown into a huge community event with up to 500+ attendees. In the last 2 years the celebration has received Proclamations from East Saint Louis, Washington Park and Cahokia. Featured articles were published in The St. Louis Post Dispatch, Belleville News Democrat and The East Saint Louis Monitor. Fox 2 News has featured The Juneteenth Association for segments on The 9 AM Morning Show. This year The JASTL is bringing The Juneteenth Celebration to Carondelet Park in South City on Sunday, June 17, 2018. Also, The Juneteenth Celebration Block Party will be Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Love Bank Park on Cherokee Street and Nebraska Avenue. </DIV>

On Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 2-8p.m. The 1st Annual Juneteenth Block Party will take place at Love Bank Park at the corner of Cherokee Street & Nebraska Avenue. The STL JUNETEENTH ASSOCIATION SPONSORS THIS EVENT. The founder, @Rastra along with @Shamikacroom has organized this FREE FAMILY EVENT. Our goal is to educate our community about OUR AFRICAN AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY, CELEBRATE OUR FREEDOM FROM SLAVERY AS WELL AS PROMOTING OUR LOCAL TALENT & ENTREPRENEURS.
