About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

In 1976, a British wine merchant in Pars named Stephen Spurrier conducted a blind tasting of wines from California versus wines from France, with European wine journalists as the judges. The shocking result was that a Napa Valley Chardonnay was judged the best white wine and a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was judged the best red wine. We will taste the current release vintage of six of the California wines and discuss the impact this event had on the world of wine. The cost of the tasting is $50 per person and includes charcuterie and cheese. There will be special discounts on the wines offered that evening.

Wines included:

  • Chateau Montelena Chardonnay (the winner)
  • Freemark Abbey Chardonnay
  • Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon (the winner)
  • Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Clos du Val Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon
