The Impact of Trauma on Maternal Perinatal Mental Health - Perinatal Child-Parent Psychotherapy to Repair Trauma and Promote Attachment

Speaker: Gloria Castro, PsyD

Bio: Gloria Castro, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist whose research, clinical care, and teaching focuses on infant mental health, mental health daycare consultation, and perinatal mental health. In her roles at the Child Trauma Research Program at the University of California -San Francisco (UCSF) and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Dr. Castro has been instrumental in the development and implementation of Child-Parent Psychotherapy during pregnancy and the postnatal period, in addition to integrating perinatal mental health services in hospital settings. Dr. Castro has a strong interest on the impact of immigration on family systems, the intergenerational transmission of trauma, and the impact of trauma on children’s development. She has presented on national and international conferences, and forums on the topics of parenting in a different culture, the impact of immigration on the sense of self and motherhood identity, and perinatal mental health. Prior to coming to the Infant-Parent Program and Child Trauma Research Program, she worked at the Children’s Hospital, National Medical Center in Mexico City and at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Please note that while the Just Talks Lecture Series is free to attend, there is a $30 fee for non-Mount Sinai affiliated Psychologists who wish to obtain CE credit for their attendance. You must select the External Psychology CE registration option.
