About this event

Welcome to our brand new addition to our DIY offerings at the Hub. The Hub's Study Hall is where you can use our fully set up repair benches and stands to work on your bike. A mechanic will be available to answer questions or give advice on what you're working on. This is a great space for folks who recently took a class and are looking to practice their skills.

We have six benches available to work on, but only three will be available for prior reservation. The rest will be walk-in only.

Please note the mechanic on staff is not allowed to work on bikes in the Study Hall space due to liability, but will assist you with any questions or advise you appropiately.

In addition to the tools on the bench, these following tools are available for use as well:

- Crown Race Puller

- Crown Race Setter and Adaptors

- Crown Race Cutting Tool
- Brake Mount Facing Tool

- Star- Nut Setting Tool
- Headset/Bottom Bracket Press

- Breaker Bar- Files

- Thread Taps
- Bottom Bracket Facing and Tapping Tool

NO POWERTOOLS, NO SAWS, NO BLEED KITs

(All Tools Above Require A Valid ID and Credit Card to be used and can only be used under the supervision of the Study Hall Mechanic and only to be used by those partcipating in Study Hall)

Frequently asked questions

What tools are available on the benches?

The bench tool list is linked in the description above

Why do I need an ID and Credit Card to use some tools?

The user is liable for any damage to the tools they use. If broken they will be liable for replacement or repair of the tool. Many of the tools on the extra list are very expensive

Can you teach me how to (insert skill here)?

No, Study Hall is not for specific demonstrations or skills to be taught. The mechanic can answer any questions and give you advice on how to do something. But they can not work on your bike. I recommend taking one of our classes or scheduling a custom class if you can't find the right class

What if I reserve one hour but need more?

If you don't have a bench reserved, you are not guaranteed a working space. Depending on availability of benches, you may be able to stay. But please aim to give yourself more time then you may think you need when reserving.

What's the late/absence/refund policy?

All refunds can happen up to 1 day before. We consider the hour forfeited if late by 30mins without notice. Please call the Hub or email classes@thehubbikecoop.org if you know you will be late.

We run the only cooperatively-owned bike shop in the Twin Cities. Our mission is "All Types of Bikes for All Types of People" We believe that folks no matter what they ride deserve to have safe, fun and reliable bikes. This extends into our education program. We want to make self-sufficient and confident cyclists, and share the fun of working on bikes.
