Frequently asked questions

Who is The Hidden Opponent?

The Hidden Opponent is the leading non-profit organization for athlete mental health advocacy, education, and support. We provide accessible resources and unite a global community to empower athletes to prioritize their mental health and shatter the stigma within sports culture.

What is this 5K all about?

Our chapter was selected for a mini-grant from THO and Adidas to hold a campus event aimed at advocating for athlete mental health, educating our community on THO and mental health, supporting our athletes and community in their mental wellness journeys.

Where is the money going?

All proceeds from the Mindful Miles 5K will go directly to the national chapter! THO relies heavily on donations to fund programming (for athletes and coaches), research, resources, and advocacy for student-athletes.

What is a Campus Captain?

THO campus captains gain first access to Hidden Opponent events and programming, as well as exclusive offers and an incredible community of support. Students are given mentorship, educational resources, and guidance as they work to educate themselves further and outreach on their campuses.

Advocate, Educate, Support - The Three Pillars

All student-athletes should be able to speak openly about their mental health experience without worry. THO hopes to give athletic programs, clubs, and society a different perspective on the student-athlete lifestyle. THO provides free resources and access to MH professionals for athletes in need.

Tell me a little about the FVHS THO Chapter!

Our chapter of The Hidden Opponent is one of over 800 chapters worldwide. We are the first and only high school to be awarded the THOxAdidas mini-grant for on-campus projects that promote the three pillars of THO: advocate, educate, support.

What has the FVHS chapter accomplished?

In three years, we have grown from 8 members to 32 members, had four athletes become campus captains, raised over $5,000 for the national chapter's advocacy and education programming, hosted four mental health awareness games, and grown our membership by 300%. We are a model HS chapter for THO.

Who can I reach out to with questions?

Our chapter is completely student run, however if you have questions about THO, our chapter or the 5K, please reach out to our adviser, Meghan Gannon (mgannon@wcpss.net). Want to participate but aren't sure about costs? Reach out!

Where can I learn more about your grant and chapter?
