Join us for a picnic party! Come celebrate the expansion of FONA’s Washington Youth Garden on Saturday, June 8th from 11 AM to 1 PM. The Washington Youth Garden has a beautiful new honeycomb fence around it that expands our growing space and makes our garden more inviting, visible, and accessible. We’ll not only celebrate the completion of the fence, but also all of you – our Grow the Garden campaign supporters and community members who have made this project possible. Come celebrate with us!
What to expect:
- Explore the expanded Washington Youth Garden and new fence
- Hands-on garden activities
- Live music from East of the River Steel Band
- Art activities, face painting, and other activities for all ages
Bring a blanket and your own picnic, or enjoy lunch from one of the food truck vendors that will be at the garden.
A big thank you to our Grow the Garden campaign supporters! Over the last nine months, we’ve raised over $150,000 from more than 90 individual donors, including two generous donors who provided matching contributions. You can still add your name to our donorlist by making a contribution to the campaign!

This is a free, family-friendly event. Please RSVP to get event updates. Additional donations at any level are welcome and will go towards the Grow the Garden campaign.
Navigation + Parking
The Washington Youth Garden is located inside the grounds of the U.S. National Arboretum. Use this google pin to navigate directly to the garden.
You can enter the Arboretum from the R street entrance (2400 R St NE, Washington, DC 20002) or the New York Ave entrance (3501 New York Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002). Limited parking is available in the Fern Valley lot adjacent to the Washington Youth Garden, and additional parking is available in the Grove Parking lot (see map below)
If you are walking, biking, or taking a rideshare to the event, please use the R Street entrance. The garden is about a 15 minute walk from the R Street entrance.
