Founded in 1984, Vermont Folklife is a nationally-known education and cultural research nonprofit that uses ethnography—the study of cultural experience through interviewing, participation and observation—to strengthen the understanding of the cultural and social fabric of Vermont's diverse communities.Vermont Folklife’s mission is to deepen our understanding of each other by engaging with communities across the state to document and share everyday expressions of tradition, innovation, and culture.

The Green Record Project : An Audio Time Capsule of Vermont for Future Humans and BeyondGrab your phone or an audio recorder!! 				 Be a community audio explorer!			 What does Vermont sound like to you? Youth and Adults of Earth! Join The Vermont Folklife Center for an exciting summer voyage in an audio exploration of your community. The Green Record is a series of audio stories that represent life in Vermont to the universe at large. Inspired by The Voyager’s Golden Record, the collection is produced by local youth, families, friends, neighbors, and you! You and/or your team will create "a kind of time capsule, intended to communicate a story of our world," to future humans and beyond. Whether your Green Record is self-organized, created in our workshops, or put together by your team, Vermont Folklife Center and Fletcher Free Library are your ground control.TIMELINECreate your audio piece any time between June 2nd-August 2nd, 2019. Attend workshops and collaborate with your team throughout the summer. Final event and release party at The Fletcher Free Library on August 9th from 3-5 pm. BECOME A COMMUNITY AUDIO EXPLORER! Register here and you will receive full instructions for the project by June 21st. You’ll be able to use the Community Audio Explorer Manual to self-produce your audio piece or you can drop in to a workshop at the Fletcher Free Library for hands-on support from our media specialists. ENLIST AS A TEAM OR AN INDIVIDUAL! Teams can be a combination of youth and adults, families, only youth, or only adultsCHOOSE TO MAKE A FULL GREEN RECORD OR A SINGLE TRACK! Full record is 30 minutes long, single tracks can be anywhere from 3-10 minutesATTEND A WORKSHOP!
