On December 6, 1917, during the height of the First World War, two ships trying to navigate Halifax Harbor collided, resulting in the largest man-made explosion of the pre-atomic age. David Read will recount the events leading up to this devastating tragedy and the impressive Massachusetts rescue effort.  
Hawthorne Hotel, Salem.  Hors d'oeuvres will be served starting at 6:30.  The cost is only $17 for members, $20 for all others (member guests and non HCNS/HCMV members.)
