The Great American Eclipse 2017 – Post Processing Workshop

So, you did all your research and figured out the ideal filters and camera settings to capture eclipse photographs. You carefully identified and secured the ideal location to shoot the eclipse in its totality. Now, what you have is a whole pile of images that you are not exactly sure what you are going to do with. Dealing with all those images is the intent of this workshop. Solar eclipse images, all by themselves, may not necessarily be all that exciting. With a little forethought and some post processing effort these raw images can be turned into unique and compelling compositions. In part 1 of this workshop (<A HREF="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/shooting-the-upcoming-eclipse-class-tickets-36691557436?ref=wpcalendar" TARGET="_blank" REL="noopener noreferrer">Click here for Shooting the Upcoming Eclipse)</A> our focus will be on that of the sun itself and the interaction that the moon has with the sun during the phases of the Eclipse. Techniques will be demonstrated that show how to isolate phases of the eclipse itself and to show off, and the best possible light, various facets of the sun peeking around the edge of the moon. Images edited using these techniques would likely be the component images that would be used in making a composite picture. In part 2 of this workshop we will take resources edited in part 1 of this workshop and attempt to put together an ideal composite image. Time permitting we will assemble two different composite images. Our first composite image will show the various phases of the sun's interaction with the moon and a progression throughout the entire frame. Our second composite will work to combine a compelling foreground scene with some unique phase of the eclipse during its totality. As it is likely that each participant will have unique and different images from other participants in the workshop and those of the instructor, the workshop will be offered as a demonstration style event. Each participant will be provided with sample images so that he or she may follow along with the processing steps as they are presented, however it is not likely that each participant will be able to edit their own individual images during this time. The demonstration techniques presented should provide each participant with ample ideas and tools to subsequently edit their own images at their own time and pace. The instructor for this workshop will be using both Adobe light room and Adobe photo shop for the editing steps that will be presented. Experience with your computer system and each of these applications would be ideal but not entirely necessary, as the instructor will carefully walk through the steps needed to perform the edits being shown.
