A Gathering of SD Cut Flower Growers and potential new Cut Flower Farmers; to meet, network and learn.

Sturgis Community Center

Our event will kick off on Wednesday, September 27th at 6 pm mountain. We will meet at the Knuckle Saloon for a social and to learn from Helen Skiba on cut flower basics. Attendees will have the option to purchase items of the menu for supper. Thursday morning registration will be from 8-8:30 mountain. The day will be spent learning from Helen Skiba from Artemis Flower Farm in Longmont, CO, Jenny Behlings of Custer, SD and Kristine Lang of SDSU Extension. Through 5 pm we will learn about the use of cover crops and soil health for cut flowers, harvest efficiency, post harvest handling, options for multiple revenue streams, practice making wearable flower arrangements, and more. We will conclude the day with an optional tour of a neighboring farm. There will be a hotel block at <a href="https://thehotelsturgis.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Hotel Sturgis, opening up after the conclusion of the rally. </a>This event is supported in part by the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program at the U.S. Department of Agriculture through grant AM200100XXXXG074Thanks to funding through a cooperative agreement with NRCS, portions of Helen’s presentation will be available to view virtually for those who cannot make it in person.
