The Future Has Naps: An Art Exhibit Exploring Black Rest & Dreaming
Artist Janai Marshall's exhibit explores how Rest allows us to imagine--and create--new futures for ourselves, our communities, & our world.
Join artist Janai Marshall for a solo art exhibition that studies how rest & restorative practice can create an environments for imagining new futures for ourselves and our communities. Her work begs the questions: What does it mean to protect rest for ourselves now, before life is “perfect”? What happens when we embrace rest as a portal for dreaming, healing and restoration? How can our pleasurable activity be a form of generating margin and restoration for ourselves and those we're connected to?
Janai Marshall is both a multi-medium artist and licensed mental health therapist. She believes that there are Black people in the future, and that caring for ourselves well enough to live to see that future is not a luxury—it’s a necessity.
